Thin hair is not problematic in and of itself, but it has the tendency to become flat and lifeless. The solution for this is proper maintenance routine. This means that you shouldn’t just shampoo your hair and expect it to be radiant. You need to expend extra effort to make it beautiful, shiny, and strong. Learn some hair maintenance tips below.
- Use a shampoo for thin hair. Thin hair is more delicate than other types of hair because the strands are fine and are therefore more prone to breakage. This is why it is necessary to use a mild shampoo. Specifically, you need to use one that is made for thin hair, which provides nutrients and strengthens hair strands. Shampoo your hair on a regular basis. Make sure to massage shampoo onto the scalp with your fingertips not the nails. Aside from shampoo, regularly apply conditioner as well.
- Eat healthy foods. Remember that your diet plays a good part in keeping your thin hair strong and healthy. The best foods to eat are those rich in protein; Vitamins B6, B12, and E; and omega-3. Incorporate these foods in your diet and make sure to drink lots of water.
- Color your hair. Hair color can make your hair look thick and voluminous. The key here is to choose a color that is neither too blonde nor too dark. Your hair stylist knows what color is best for you, so make sure to ask. If you are coloring your hair on your own, consider the color of your scalp. If it’s dark, the hair color should be likewise dark. Remember, hair color makes a lot of difference. You don’t want to choose a hair color that will further highlight the thinness of the hair.
- Choose a flattering haircut. Like hair color, a nice haircut adds bounce to the hair. In general cases, a short cut works for most people with thin hair. This is because a short cut usually has layered styling that gives the hair fullness and body. Again, ask your stylist about the best and most flattering cut for your thin hair. Make sure to take into consideration your face shape.
- Avoid heat styling the hair. Heat can strip nutrients and moisture off your hair, making it brittle and prone to damage. This is why if not absolutely necessary, avoid using flat iron and blow dryer on your hair. But if you should use them, make sure to not to overexpose your hair to heat.
- Use volume-enhancer products. There are several products on the market today, which give volume and body to the hair. These can range from mousse to thickening products. Make sure, however, to choose products that are packed with nutrients, so your hair can benefit from the styling properties and nutritional components at the same time.
